Cost of Using Facebook App on Pay As You Go

I'll be the first to admit I'm money conscious, so I've always used Vodafone Pay As You Go. When I recently used the Facebook app on my Samsung Galaxy S2 it seemed to cost about £1 after approx 7 mins. Is this normal? What's the best alternative cost-wise.

Can you get plans that cover both a phone and a tablet, giving a data allowance across both?
