I was clearing out some junk the other day when I came across the invoice for my first PC. It was a DAN PC, 486DX33, a 6GB HD, 256Mb RAM and a Cirrus Logic graphics card. 14" montior, keyboard etc Obviously no CD drive, just a 3.5" floppy

Cost .... just under 2K !!!

Think it cost something like £800 back in 1999 or thereabouts, cant reemember the spec but it was something like a Pentium 2 333mhz.

200squids for a 2nd hand compaq p233 (mmx no less) with 64mb ram/3gb hdd/cd-rom/15in crt. back in 2002 that was. i was robbed at the time. :p

but i upgraded the ram to 384mb, stuck in a20gb drive, got a cd-rw, installed windows 2000 and it was a decent little web browsing/music playing box. :)

An emachines 420 back in 2002.

Celeron 2.6ghz, 512mb ram, 17" tft & 5 yrs warranty for £1100 from PCW, and just sold it £330 but its now got 1gb of ram anda petium 4 2.66ghz and a replacement monitor and mobo through the warranty.

£499 sometime in 1999..
windows 98
celeron 400mhz
32mb ram
3.2gb or so hard drive
rubbish AT-Case
32X cd-rom
15 inch crt

upgraded memory to 256mb and hard drive to a bigger one in early 2001, "upgraded" to xp in late 2001 (when xp still had a lot of bugs, suprisingly NOTHING except my sound card was incompatible, and im talking about installing xp over the top of a messed up 98 install), put 98 back on in late 2002, threw it away in like mid 2003 lol. i still have some games cds and the driver cds and the "recovery disk" which came with it lol, the 98 disk is lost though lol.

Nope, I'm not. Trying to remember from looking at it last night. Thinking about it, it was probably 32 or 64Mb. It was a lot for the time, but I don't think it was 256Mb after all.

'98 sometime, £1300ish.

Intel Pentium 2, 350mz, 64mbram, 8.6gb hdd, DVDDrive ( ) 14" CRT, ATi 8mb rage pro.

I remember when I upgraded to 128mb of ram, UT ran sweeeeet :D

:)

6GB sounds a bit on the large size for that age of machine too... I'd of thought it would be under 1gb !

My first PC from memory was given to us about 18 years ago.... Don't remember exact specs but know it was a 386 with a 350mb HDD running Windows 3.11 - I played Lynx (golf game) to death on it :)

Edit: In fact 350mb HDD might have been my 2nd machine which was a 486DX2-66

Silver windowed case filled with 5 or 6 80mm blue LED fans (sounded like Heathrow on a bank holiday!)

very very similar to mine - i remember getting the same spec from some company that evetually went bust. I think i spent my whole student loan on it. £1300 or so it was about 13 years ago.
i think it was a 520mb hard drive mind u

1996 - Olivetti Pentium 90 laptop, 800MB hard disk (I think), remember playing C&C and Doom 2 on it, back in the day :D

Only gave up the ghost in 2002, probably could have saved it.

£1200  I think

Wow, there is a brand I didn't expect to see mentioned except for in any of my posts. My father worked for Olivetti (technically still works for the same company, but their IT staff are now Getronics).

My first "PC" would have been an 8088 based Olivetti laptop, that had TWO, yes TWO 3.5" floppy drives! No HDD, and less than 1MB RAM.

My first desktop would have been an Olivetti 286 with 4MB of RAM and a 100MB ish HDD.

The first desktop PC I messed around with was an Olivetti 486 DX2-66 that I upgraded to a whopping 80MB of RAM and a 4GB HDD.

I also had numerous Olivetti Echos and Philos laptops, ranging from 386's with co-processors, to pentium 233 MMX's :D

The first PC I owned was a 386, 8mb RAM, 100Mb HDD (I think). I got it for free off my uncle.

The first PC I built was an Athlon 1333, 128Mb SDRAM, Geforce 2MX, 20Gb HDD.

Nice one! They knew how to build laptops, it lasted 4 years at uni for me, then another couple of years for my g/f before she broke it / it broke spontaneously (depending on who you believe :D )
