couchsurfing.com -your opinions?

going on a small trip to sweden, finland and estonia at the end of the month, our free accommodation has fallen through for sweden, so we're stuck for 5 days, hostels are full and don't want to fork out for hotel fees

we've been forced to opt for couchsurfing.com , just wondering if anyone else has used this in the past? -or if anyone here knows of cheap/almost free accommodation in uppsala;sweden

there's 3 of us going, looks like we'll have to either try and convince someone to let all of us stay or split up each night

anyone used this 'service' before?

I've heard of it but not used it. TBH I wouldnt bother. You can get youth hostel rooms for a tenner a night in a lot of places, and it saves having to make polite smalltalk with the owners of the lounge. (Plus you get a proper bed.)
Thats assuming you could all find rooms anyway of course.

my mate has done the checking, and he said all the hostels he could find were fully booked :/

I think couch surfing is okay but you have to find someone who looks ok and of course, put up with the small talk or whatever. not used it myself but if i was really stuck i wouldnt hesitate too much to use it.

How is your friend looking for hostels? tried hostelworld.com?

how many are going? if its just a couple of you you might want to look at 2 star hotels and just share a double and split the price. usually works out only slightly more expensive than a hostel

Can't book a bed = take a tent.

Not much room yet you can fit three fully grown guys if you're willing to squash up a bit.

never considered a tent, still have my tent i bought for v festival 2 years back, good suggestion, the temps are about 3 degree's at the moment at night time (again according to my mate, he said its too cold out there to sleep on benches at the moment)

when i first read "camp." , i thought you were trying to be offensive, lol
