Hi ,

Im looking to change my power supply over as i believe its dead , hopefully its not the motherboard , the power cable was lose at the back and when i was fiddling about at the back of the case it caused the power to cut in my house and after that the pc wouldn't switch back on . i have the Cougar VTX 750W 80 Plus Bronze Power Supply which i believe is dead , i wanted to replace it with the exact same one to make it as easy as possible without taking components any out but then problem is that the Cougar VTX is discontinued , would a similar cougar power supply just slot in without replacing all the cables?

Never, ever use the cables from one psu in another unless the psu has identical pinouts. If you do and the pinouts are different then you would have made a costly mistake when you switch on and the psu fails and takes other components with it. You would be ok if you could find a identical Cougar VTX 750w. Personally I would take the opportunity to upgrade to a better quality psu. The Cougar VTX series are built by budget psu builders HEC I believe and I wouldn't want one built by them.

I found out the my custom build was still covered by warranty by overclockers , i guess they will replace it with another budget psu, but as long as its fixed im happy , thanks for your reply.
