As above really, repurposing some parts for a friend and need a PSU, the PSU specs for the card on nvidia website are minimum 550w, 40amp on 12v.

He really won't spend more than about 40 quid so options are quite limited.

Thanks

Little is known about the Cougar and there are no reviews but based on past models I would avoid them altogether. Presumably the oem is HEC like most of their other models but there is not even enough information to be certain of that.

The Corsair VS series are just garbage and barely better than a generic psu. We don't even recommend the CX series on here and the VS is below that series!!

Can you list the specs of the pc please?

Thanks,

Q6600 overclocked
Asus p5kc motherboard
BFG Nvidia Gtx285 oc2 with after market air cooler
2x2gb corsair dominator ddr2
Up to 3 drives

It's my old pc, which has worked fine for years, but I carried the PSU over to my current build.

This is the only psu that is close to £40 that I would recommend. It's designed by Seasonic but outsourced to a chinese company, Shenzhen Rui Sheng Yuan Technology, who also build Superflowers budget models. It has a single 12v rail of 576w and a three year warranty. It's not brilliant but it's also not too bad and is the best he is going to get without spending considerably more on a much better psu such as the Antec Truepower Classic 550w ot the Superflower Golden Green HX 550w, both of which are just under £70. There is a 500w version of the XFX XT but the 12v rail is only 480w and it's really not that much cheaper. It should run that pc but the fan may be noisy due to the load and for only a fiver more the 600w version is better value. I can't recommend anything that costs any less on here because basically anything cheaper is rubbish.
