Could a house electrical problem be causing my devices to fail?

In the space of a couple of weeks I've had my laptop and phone stop charging, and beard trimmer die out of nowhere. 18 month old £550 Huawei laptop needs the battery section on the motherboard replaced while 2.5 year old £280 Samsung phone needs the charging port replaced. Just bad luck and coincidence or could there be something wrong with the electrics?
 
All the devices you mention shouldn't be directly affected by an issues with your house electrics. Their power supplies/charger perhaps. Sounds like a bit of bad luck (or a vindictive wife).

Still, if you've got any doubts about your home electrics it's better to get them checked regardless.
 
Wouldn't it be things like TVs, lights etc rather than things connected to chargers?

Are they all made in China.
 
Can you check the incoming voltage?
Some devices will stop/cause an error if outside of too high(253V) / low(207V) voltage.
EV chargers throw an error if outside of these.
 
The only way the electrics would be causing these faults is if their respective power supplies were malfunctioning and sending AC voltage straight through to the devices which would effectively kill them as devices that work on DC voltage don't like it when they're exposed to AC voltage and would instantly run the halt and catch fire routine.

As for the two mentioned devices, nothing is designed to last forever nowadays and considering the age of the phone it's either going to have a USB micro B or USB3 micro B port which are both well known for failing after a while.
 
We had Northern Powergrid install some gizmo a few years ago when we suspected we were getting spikes. They left it connected for 2 or 3 weeks and we got a report showing graphs and what not.
Voltage peaked at around 252v from memory, needs to be 10% over 240 for them to do anything.....I think
