Could a knackered 360 dvd drive cause this problem?

When I bought GTA IV my 360 starting giving the odd unreadable disc message and the game would freeze at the first screen. So I cleaned the disc and, as the 360 is out of warranty, I opened up and cleaned the DVD drive and adjusted the laser (POT tweak) and it fixed the problem.

However, as I haven't had the chance to see the game in action on another 360 I was wondering if the jerky framerate and popup I'm getting could be to do with the drive not reading the game fast enough? I know the game suffers from this a bit anyway but it looks worse on mine than some of the videos I've seen of the game.

It could have course be due to playing on a 1680x1050 WS LCD as the 360 doesn't support 16:10 resolutions so the closest match is to play at 1280×768 .

I can get a new drive and swap them over but its a pain in the arse to do so I'd rather know if its definitely the drive first.

Cheers.

My BENQ at stock performs identically to my Samsung drive.

Meh :(

Saying that I'm not too bothered, no other game seems to have an issue with the BENQ, and I'm coming towards the end of my interest with GTA anyway, at least until DLC appears.

I was wondering whether my low framerate in GTA4 as due to my DVD reading slowly. I watched it in the shop and it looked dead smooth. Got it home, laggy as hell.
