I've got the machine built.

Condensed list of what i'd guess are the need to know components are:
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
Gigabyte GA-MA790x-DS4 Mobo
AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition 3Ghz quad (stock)
4GB (2x2Gb) Ocz reaper RAM

Well here's my problem.
My problem is that on the System window in the Control Panel it lists the processor as an unknown model at ~2.3Ghz when it clearly is a 3Ghz quad core 940. From the Vista score and performance i've had i can guess that this is just a cosmetic thing but i think this might make overclocking a little tricky if i can't rely on the systems reports of its settings. So i was wondering if
a) Anyone knew what was wrong.
b) If anyone knew how to fix it.
c) If anyone had any experience overclocking this processor. Little bit of a newbie when it comes to overclocking.

I have a dxdiag i can send anyone if they need it to help and they likely will.

Thanks in advance,
Chivalry

Edit: sorry if this turns out to be the wrong board to post this in.

mmm, have you looked to see if there are any new BIOS releases out for your motherboard and if they address any issues like this?

I'll go run something and give it a check then Reflux, thanks again.

Edit: No change, ran Photoshop played about with it and threw up WoW at the same time. Also checked my power settings and its not on Low so i don't think CnQ is enabled from what i've gathered googling.

Thanks for the help guys, BIOS update did it.

First thing anyone should do after intalling a new mobo or cpu is look to see if you have the most upto date bios. Personally if just getting a cpu on old board, check for new bios first. The drivers that come with systems are usually older and are just enough to get you going so you can download the new drivers/bios.
