as in title,

theoraticly could DX10 be emulated like DX9 is through Wine for linux users ?, surely this could be done,

I've been reading this article over @ WineHQ,

http://www.winehq.org/?issue=320

what does this paragraph mean ?, possible DX10 emulation on XP ?,

"Direct3D10, which will ship with Windows Vista in a few months, doesn't seem to be a large cause for concern. At first glance it appears to be more of an evolutionary change rather than revolutionary. New shader support will be needed, but extending ours once OpenGL supports it should be pretty easy. Stefan mentioned Microsoft is currently offering a lot of incentives for Windows developers who develop D3D10-only games since they'll only be usable on Vista - there's no plan to backport D3D10 to XP. Dan Kegel asked if that means we should port Wine's forthcoming D3D10 implementation to Windows, which would be relatively easy when we switch to WGL."

granted this is an old article and I am clutching at straws here but I just think it's got to be possible to somehow run DX10 on XP

Unless they give WDDM to XP as well then it's not going to happen. There's just too many backward compatibility issues to deal with when adding it to an old OS.

It will be years until there are any DX10 exclusive games anyway so don't worry about it.

by the time that DX10 only games are major most people will have probably either upgraded to vista or bought a new pc from a shop which will be preloaded with vista.
