My laptop has 1GB ram, and this is shared with the onboard graphics card. At the moment the system sets aside 256mb for the gfx chip.

Thing is, I don't game on my laptop. It's used for internet, email and photo editing, so I'm wonder whether it would be wise to reduce the amount of memory available to the gfx to 128mb, or would this adversly affect the photo editing side of things?

I'm upgrading to 2GB next week, so perhaps I won't need to change this setting and just leave it as it is or do you think it's worth changing anway to free up even more ram?

Give it a go and see what happens. If you're on Vista, you might notice a slowdown in performance with Aero, the fancy 3D interface with the transparency effects etc. But even with 128MB, that should still be fine.

Give it a try and see, certainly won't do any harm.
