Could it be the PSU?

My mate has tried 2 new Micro ATX Mobos (Onboard Graphics) with his 22" TFT and both times he gets a message saying check Monitor cable coming up. He couldn't even install Vista or go into the bios!

He tried the VGA and the DVI cables as New motherboards had both inputs.

If you connect the TFT to my laptop it works fine!

Thing is, he has a naff, unknown 450w PSU that a crisp packet has more weight to!!!

I was thinking it could be the PSU. What do you lot think?

Well the PSU [assuming it's functioning] will output maybe 250w - which is enough for a modest system (until it explodes). So unless you have reason to suspect it's broke then it's not the source of your problems.

Try a CMOS reset sometimes this has worked for me, remove one stick or ram and test in different slots and test the other stick.

Is there any components that can be checked in another pc.

None that can be checked.

2 New mobos and both the same happening. All other components worked fine before.

4 pin attached as normal

Ordered another PSU. See what happens

Probably is the PSU then... might be a rail is so far out of spec it refuses to boot. You could try a simple multimeter test on the output from the PSU - check the 12 and 5 voltages and the cPU power.

The PC starts ok but no screen output. Black screen with message saying check cable for TFT.

Will see what happens tomorrow when he gets the new PSU.

Well guys, tested the old PSU and it was fine but, replaced it with a new PSU and everything works fine now!!

Looks like the old PSU was not powerful enough.
