Could my router be broke?

I'm having probs with my internet connection where it seems I'm only getting 50% of the internet.
I plugged my cable directly into my modem and I have full access.
My Linksys BEFSR41 is a version 1 and must be nearly 10 years old but I just upgraded it with the latest firmware.
I've re-flashed, reset, re-booted but I still get 50% of the internet
eg I can get OCUK Forums but not the shop site.
I haven't got a clue what I could change in the Linksys settings although another member suggested changing DND entries but i can't see where.

Any ideas? Does it sound as though its broke?

Not sure what's wrong with it, but might I suggest trying the Tomato firmware on it - assuming it's compatible. :)

One thing that is a possibility is that Virgin's routing is screwed. When you connect directly, what does your IP range start with? When you connect with the router you'll get another IP (as Virgin will have issued an IP lease to your router's MAC address) - what does this start with?

Have you left your router unplugged for a day or so so that the lease expires and so that you get a new IP address when you plug it back in? Another option is to change the MAC address of the router so that it picks up a different IP.

A friend of mine had this - it wasn't as bad as your problem, but 2 or 3 sites he regularly visted wouldn't load. He changed his router's MAC so it picked up a new IP and then everything was fine.

You may have a point.
I've just bought a new router and I've had to run IPCONFIG and it looks as though my IP has changed.
However, I've had this router for around 10 years and I've had loads of IP changes and I haven't had to do anything.

Yeah but what I'm saying is that it's likely their end - if you get allocated a new IP that's in a different subnet, the routing out to the Internet could take a different path. So, it might well be Virgin having issues with particular client subnets.
