I'm just about ready to order the parts for my brothers new build i'm doing for him. Budget of £1500 for the system itself.
This is how far I have got so far and covers his broad range of needs (games quite a bit, needs to be good for video editing, speedy and have plenty of storage.)
He is expecting it to be a computer that will run well for the next 5 years.

I am unsure on whether to change the case for the Corsair Graphite 600T Midi Tower Case or stick with the Antec. (I have not built with either before)
This one.. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-026-CS&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

So i'm interested in views people might have that have built with either and also I know I have included 5850's instead of some of the newer cards but they seem such a good pre-order price I find it hard to see how I could spend the same amount of money on graphics better. Can I? I'm really not sure so would appreciate feedback if there is an alternative for price/performance at the moment.
Does the build look balanced in general from what I have picked and is it the kind of spec a PC should be for £1500?

No need for anything more than something like this...

thanks superewza but I don't think I will have any chance of getting win7, apps and his games on a 40gb SSD.
I get what you are saying about saving some money on AMD mobo/cpu though. I'm not sure about the 6870 either for £200 I know it's a good card but i really am unsure just whether the 6XXX cards are worth the extra money over the 5XXX at their current prices and owning the 5850 and 5870 I know they both play all the latest games very well. Xfired for £250 is something I am finding very hard to ignore for him.

that 5850 is out of stock, and being a older model card you cant be guaranteed it will return in stock and at that same price.

thanks Chuggerboom. That makes things very interesting (and more confusing)

Stulid how would the performance differ between what you have suggested and what I put up? £837 is almost half the budget and not even near the same price bracket so i'm very interested if you think that your buying spec will compete. If you can get similar speeds in an all around kind of way then there really is a lot to be said for just spending £900.

Here a cpu comparison - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/147?vs=100 at stock speeds, yours is a overclocked bundle.

Heres review of the 6870 card - http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/amds-radeon-6870-6850-renewing-competition-in-the-midrange-market the graph results include a 5850 so no need to bother reading the review, just look at the pictures.

a few points about that spec above.

The 650w modular psu is plenty of power for two 6870, again there are power usage charts in the above link.

a great spacious case, that includes a SSD mount.

Win7 home, you dont need professional version.

Crossfire motherboard with SATA and USB3.0, useful for the crucial SSD with its SATA3.0 interface

well thats a no brainer then, swap the 6870 for them, infact allow me to add in two!!!

thanks stulid. will study all the info now. But he does need win7 pro as that offers virtual machine which I believe you don't have with win7 home and he has to have that.
