Hi guys

I'm looking to upgrade and have £1000 to do so...the only thing I don't really need is the memory (already got 2GB) sound card and hard drive also, so I'd just be looking for Graphics (would like 2), Processer, Motherboard.

Also, I have a 600W power supply - would this be enough to run 2 graphics cards on, or would I need some more juice?

**Edit - I'd also need a case included in the price too, as I'm sure the one I've got would be too small to hold some of the more modern graphics cards**

Is your memory DDR2? If not, you could have problems with a new mobo.

Also, SLI (or Crossfire, to be honest), is a bit of a waste of time and money at the moment.

Thanks for the reply.

Hmm...I don't think it is DDR2 to be honest...so I guess I'll have to include memory in the price too, and just limit to one graphics card if two isn't a good idea.

TBH, best to get a new system, as PSUs degrade with age. How about:-

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM

(£36.41)
Enermax Liberty 500W ELT500AWT ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU £59.99

Thanks for all your input.

How does this setup look:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case

Just out of interest, is there a big difference in the different graphics cards? IE: 768MB, 640MB etc... will I notice that much difference?

Looks like a great spec.

There is a big difference between the 8800 GTX (very fast) and the 8800 GTS 640 (fast), as a GTS is basically 3/4 of a GTX, and clocked slightly slower. Less of a jump between the 8800 GTS 640 and the 8800 GTS 320 as they are basically the same GPU, just different amounts of memory.

I'd swap Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM for Pioneer DVR-112DBK 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter - (Black) OEM. Also I'd seriously consider getting an E6300 and overclocking it. It would save you quite a bit.

RE: Graphics card - It's totally up to you mate. The GTX will destroy any game at them moment no matter what settings you put it on. The only consideration is if you only have a 19" or 22" monitor you may well want to get the BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC 640MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI

Both great drives, but why go back to IDE?

Need more info about that PSU. For that, refer to...

Bump -

Funds have increased to £1500 but need to incorporate the power supply with this too. Even though I have one, it's a bit old so I might as well buy a new one.
This is what I have penciled in -

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM - X2

Samsung SH-183LBEBN 18x18 DVD±RW Dual Layer Serial ATA Lightscribe ReWriter (Black) - OEM X2

Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3P (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (Cant decide between this and the ASUS one)

Tuniq Tower 120 CPU Cooler

BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail

Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail

Antec Nine Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit

Maybe I could ammend/change with the increased budget?

If you wanted to overclock the memory then get something with Micron chips - anything from the Team group should have those.

You might want to consider a Asus P5B deluxe, or the Asus 650 SLi. Asus seem to make good motherboards.

TheDean's spec looks great, go for the crucial memory he suggested.

Also the DS3 is a great board, been very happy with mine.
