Could someone with a PS3 just check something for me please?

I don't have a Playstation, or any console for that matter, but I used to have a Playstation 1 and on that I had Final Fantasy 8 which I thoroughly enjoyed playing for hours and hours and hours!

I've just learnt that you can get FF8 on PSN but before I rush out and buy a PS3, I was wondering if someone who already has a PS3 would be able to check whether FF8 is actually available in this country and if so, how much and how I would go about getting it (I presume it's just a regular download but I don't know anything about PSN).

Ta muchly.

It is available yes, Cost can't remember Something like £7.99 I think. Think of PSN like Steam, Every thing is just downloaded.

That the only reason you want a ps3?

Thanks for that. I did post a thread a few months ago asking for thoughts on PS v XBox as I couldn't decide which to get. This availability of FF8 might just be the tiny fact that swings it in the PS direction :p

If you've still got the discs then the PS3 will play them as well.

Sadly I don't have the discs or the orginal PS, both were given away years ago.

Many thanks

If you have no friends on either, The PS3 is the one to get imo. You get more for your money now and if you get a PSN+ sub you will get discounts and free games thrown at you every month, Very much worth it.

I'm on my second 360 now as I wanted Forza Horizon but honestly I can't see what the fuss was about.

If it's of any consolation Final Fantasy 1 - 9 are available on the PS Store (though I think a couple are PSP/Vita only like 1-4), and we're due to get a Final Fantasy X HD remake as well as Final Fantasy XIV's re-release. Also PSone games get upscaled :D

I only ever played FF8 but apprently 7 is also awesome?

It is :p probably one of my most played games in my earlier years. 6 and 9 are very good too!

If you need any more persuasion beyond the availability of PSone and 2 classics, the PS3 is getting some awesome looking exclusives like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, etc.

7 is most peoples pick of the bunch tbh, Like mine. Final Fantasy 8 is a very close second but as you have played 8 and are used to the better models etc you will likely prefer 8 for ever more :p

got to give a mention to FF9 and 10 also as they are really good but 10 is ps2 so until this remake comes (please come) you would need a early 60gb ps3 or ps2 to play it.

Thanks. Do you access that and purchase via the PS web-browser or is there a specific shop access mode where you buy things? Just curious really...

That's just the browser-based one; there's a specific Store app on the console itself.

Oh, one last question. Is it likely that the PS will upscale the graphics in any way or will it just pump out the old blocky stuff just to a bigger screen? :p

Thanks all, I'll probably pick one up on the weekend now :)

It might be worth investing in PS+ too if you get a PS3 with a decent sized hard drive. It's currently on sale for £29.99 for a year and you basically get a "free" batch of games that can be played as long as your subscription is active. Some really good titles in the past like Arkham City, Bulletstorm, Darksiders, Motorstorm Apocalypse, etc. as well as larger discounts during sales, cloud storage, automatic updates and such. There's an OCUK thread that gets updated on the current freebies here.

It pumps out the old blocky stuff to a bigger screen :p it probably looks better than it would to just connect a PSone to your TV though.

It upscales and there is a "smoothing" option if I remember. Still looks pants mind but not a lot you can do about that without re-modelling the lot.

Not a problem either way really, I was just curious. Last time I played it was on an old 640 x 480 TV :p
