I always use firefox so don't have internet explorer open when this happens.

Boot to safe mode with networking. Launch MBAM, update definitions and perform a full system scan.

I've just done that and nothing has been detected.

Does the log tab in MBAM give any further information?

I would create a thread on the MBAM forum and see what they have to say.
