Hello! I don’t frequent this place often and I don’t know much about cars so please be patient / kind! :)

My car was damaged on a motorway by a rogue stone - very annoying. Here’s a photo of the ‘chip / crack’. The raindrops should be a good indicator of size. Previously when I’ve had chips I’ve arranged for a man to come out and sort it with a.... device that fixes chips miraculously. This time, I don’t think I’m so lucky and I’m rather dreading having to replace the whole windscreen. The cracks seem deeper than surface level.

What say you, motor gods?

Where is that, that may be key for this one, it looks dubious as to whether it would get through MOT if in the drivers eyeline

Its probably repairable if not in eyeline
Thanks for your kind response! It’s in the passanger seat’s “eye line” away from the driver’s side and doesn’t affect the driver’s view of the road.

Thanks all.

I think they usually only repair them if the crack is less than the size of a £2 coin. Your impact point looks pretty small but what’s the deal with that semi circle around it? Is that a scratch or a crack on one of the internal layers?
That small circle was from the impact of the stone. IIRC it is surface level but not being next to my car it’s hard to say.

Sounds like the plan is to try and arrange a repair ASAP before it gets any worse.

Such misfortune, oh well.

What car?
Audi A1
OP, how did you get on?

Had a stone hit my screen yesterday in the "A" zone and it is less than 1cm across except for one crack coming off it that just exceeds the limit. So no repair possible and £75 excess for a new screen.
It’s actually my partner’s car - she’s reviewing options at the moment. Thanks for the comparative info!
