Hi all, I was hoping for a little input if possible.
I'm looking to get a new monitor for both home and work but I've got some issues which need to be worked around. I'm pretty much blind in my left eye save for very blurred colour and my right eye isn't exactly great. The very different vision out of each eye causes quite a bit of disorientation when using 16x9 screens up close so I'd prefer a 4x3 but I know this is perhaps unrealistic.
I'm also very sensitive to flicker and am awaiting a neurologist referral for assessment regarding possible photosensitive partial and complex seizures.
Taking these into account I think what I'm looking for will be an LED 27" 1440p IPS which handles portrait views well, no pwm and an 8-bit panel without frc. I've been mulling over 1600p but I'm not sure if the price to benefit ratio would really be worth it. I reckon I'll probably be fine with a 16x9 at native resolution with text scaled in software.
Most of the time I'll be using it for programming and web but I'll also be using it for games occasionally. Seeing as I'm running an 8800GTS 512 I'm not expecting to max out the resolution by any stretch of the imagination and I don't mind a bit of ghosting.
Not worried so much about colour representation as I'll not be doing much in the way of photo editing or the like. I'm just looking for a monitor which I can code on comfortably, is easy on they eyes and minimises any problems caused by flicker.
Budget wise I'd really prefer something sub £500 (plus a little extra for a stand) and so far I've had my eye on the DGM IPS-2701WPH and the Dell UltraSharp U2713HM. Is there much between the two of them really? I had been leaning more towards the DGM but I'm now a little hesitant as I've read a new range is just around the corner. Unless the 2101 goes on sale any time soon I think I may be tempted to hold off for the new 27".
If anyone has any other monitor suggestions or anything to add otherwise then it would be greatly appreciated.
many thanks,
-Dan.
