Have completely lost my way with crunching and folding.

I have a rampage 4 and i7 3820 which will be clocked to 4.0 with 2 x evga gtx 570 and hopefully more if want add bears fruit.
Want to turn that over to folding, so whats the current thinking and app in use is it still an all in one run select cpu/gpu along with folding id?

Have a rampage 3 with an i7 930 at 4.0 with 2 x Titans want to use that for crunching seti. Have been enjoying bashing a few games with them and the upcoming Bioshock Infinite will be played to death.
I was kindly pointed to the new optimised app by Mr Loudbob along with detailed instructions on installing them. I tried multiple times but somehow kept getting it wrong in the end I threw a fit and stopped trying :(

If anyone is planning on getting/utilising Titans in Seti with the new optimised app would be greatfull for some help or if your in the process of going Titan and waiting for delivery would you mind if I tagged along?

I have an electric key and its fully loaded not worried so much about power use but pointers as to the most effective use of the above hardware would be much appreciated.

There I did it, posted a normal request in a regular thread without going senile or off on a wobbly with my lack of understanding and enthusiasm getting in the way ...... so as and when anyone has any helpful points I would be greatfull.

Faster .... faster... need input .... oh the shame ... I am in wot? position

Mr that as always I'm willing to help.

Simplest way for folding is head to the Standford site grab the first download link you find which I think is called "get folding" this with the v7.* client.

This will install (with help from your good self) and eventually try to use some horrific web GUI. Close all that off open up the "advance " option from The folding icon on the bottom right of your screen. And you can then make tweaks to the slots etc.

Through the install process it should have asked for your creds and passkey team etc.

Finally I found best PPD was from using what ever number of cores (12 for your 930) minus one for the GPUs to run and allow the GPUs to fold. That should be sufficient.

I would expect to see circa 60k PPD from dual 570s and a930 maybe 65 infact.

Hmmmm that does not sound to bad, am getting into the mode and will start up the folding tonight Thanks Greg much appreciated :)

Am still no good with that process manager though, it was that and optimised apps for seti that de-motivated me for a while.

Oh I cant be fussed with all that process do dah am effectively thick and I would only destroy something trying to work it out to heck with that.

Apart from install and passkey hiccup seems all ok does this look right?

Ahaaaa, I have moved the slider to full and the gpus are now running.
The points per day showed as 66000 per day but has gone down to 58000 per day with gpu's running so should I drop the gpu's completely?

Not overclocking the gpu's for now but am concerned that the cpu indicator gets to a few percent then changes to cpu 8 and starts from 0% again is this normal?

Other than that anything I am doing wrong please chip in

it looks fine. I think you need to change your cpu:8 down to cpu:7 which will improve things overall.

Unless you are finding everything is running 100% as it is? otherwise looks good.

Keep the slider on max though :D

ERM... From memory since I've just downed my sr2...

Close the web application

Go to bottom right of screen by the clock folding should still be running.

Right click go "advanced"

Once in advanced, click configuration (iirc top left ish)

Drill down into the slots tab

Then highlight CPU

Select edit.

Change only the the numeric value in the field next two CPU. It should be -1 change it to 7

The page is quiet long and will only effect the CPU for The CPU part but when looking at GPU only the GPU part is relevant.

I hope this helps :)

I'm off to bed now but if your still stuck tomorrow I'll hel opp more

Blimey, when did they release that horrible looking F@H thingy? I thought 7.2.9 was the current windows toy. Is it worth an upgrade?

I do not know if its worth an upgrade, it just makes setting up a bit simpler for us thick folk :) There are all the advance options there behing the scenes in settings so you can still "fiddle" with it.

I didn't like it one bit - so I revert back to the old(er) 7.2.* version i had.

However, if OcUK manage to ship my order in the near future I'll be swapping my two 3770K's over to Linux (Ubuntu) and move all my gpu's to the 2600K's & Celerons.

I also need to arrange a time to go collect my new toy BaBa has kindly agreed to part with.

PPD I can expect a minimum of 800k (as long as I don't do any of that silly stuff like playing games or watching films etc)
