Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I was wondering if we could have a maths/science forum on OCUK?

Would anyone else be interested in it? Seeing as this is a computer forum and computer science is a maths discipline it would be attractive to a lot of members I think.

What do you think?

I don't see much discussion of this in GD. Perhaps start a dedicated thread and see how much traffic there is before going straight to a sub forum.

Bit of a stretch there! By that logic the electronic engineering section should be first. There might be many people that like installing the latest kit, but I'm less convinced they wish to chat about algorithm efficiency or factorisation methods.

Fair point.

I agree

I'll start it off. This is an Amazon interview question apparently.

A cable of 80 meters (m) is hanging from the top of two poles that are both 50 m from the ground. What is the distance between the two poles, to one decimal place, if the center of the cable is:

(a) 20 m above the ground?
(b) 10 m above the ground?

No way is that an Amazon interview question! I would have thought their only question would be “Are you willing to work your bloody fingers to the bone for a pittance with no arguments whatsoever?”
