Im not sure if this is more hardware, games, or OS, so Ill leave it up the mods to decide and move if needed.

I know its possible to change the shell of Windows to use something other than explorer.exe. Ive done it on a media PC in th epast, making it open Media Centre and not explorer, and last night I was thinking, could you make a PC be like a Steam Console.

If you could make it start up quickly, and auto login to an account that loaded up just Steam, full screen, and then connected it to a HDTV, it could be like a console. You could use a wireless setup like the Phantom Lapboard (below) and a wireless controller then use it from your sofa. Its not limited to Steam games, as any game installed can be added to the list and get the Steam overlay. IF there was some funky way to automatically make shortcuts and make them big and flasshy that would be cool to.

Its just a thought? what do you think?

Apart from the mouse and keyboard...end up using 360 controller for most pc games anyway.

Steam already opens on startup and goes to games window, with all shortcuts to games on mine.

What would be the benefits of this over a proper gaming machine?

Uh... probubly nothing, except maybe being a lard ass and not having to put disks in (console) and getting to louge on a sofa. Just wondered if it has been done?

After all, this is what the Phantom console was meant to be, and it never arrived, so couldnt ahve been that good an idea.
