Guys im in a bit of a pickle.

im a security guard.

the hourly rate compared to some of the wages people are on here is laughable.

hourly rate: £6.61 (north west). 55hours per week.
at the end of the week after tax / insur i take home: £300.

here are the hours.

saturday and sunday 7am-7pm (12hour shifts)
mon an tues 5pm to 8:30am the next morning (15.5hour shift)

what im struggling with is finishing on the tuesday morning and getting home and only getting about 4 hours sleep coz i have to be back in work for 5pm that same day to do another 15.5hours shift.

i get to watch my laptop and use the net but man its sooooo boring sitting on a reception desk all that time.

joke wages apart could you guys do these shifts ?
i have £10k in the bank and i feel like leaving and using my savings while i look for something else.

You need a minimum of 10 hours between shifts.

Take it up with your employer, those are poor hours.

I'd sit on the laptop and see if I could write a sci-fi book.

Or learn Spanish. Or invent a board game. Or set up an internet business. Or write to a prisoner on death row. Or using virtual money, and loads of research, see if you would make a profit investing in shares - if so .. ACTUALLY start investing in shares.

As the pet shop boys once said 'We were never bored because we were never boring'. A statement I very much agree with.

Wait, what? Didn't you do this exact (or near enough) same thread like a week or so ago?

No, they did a thread about not being able to go on the internet, i think. My guess is that some of the comments about the hours made them rethink their prospects. Is that such a bad thing?

I wasn't suggesting it was a bad thing, I was asking a genuine question. I got a sense of "deja-vu" from the original post.

Get out of that while you have savings to fall back on, some people won't even have that!

In comparison, the gf works 12hr shifts for 2.5x what you earn per hour...

What qualifications do you have and what interests you?

You'd get paid more working nights (or days) in a nursing home, for probably what would be better hours!

I agree with people saying that those wages are crap, i was getting more per hour doing warehouse work 8am-5pm.

EDIT: i thought security guard get like £12+ per hour

Yeah stacking shelves isn't to bad, much better than checkouts. But still some people would rather long shift and be able to do what you want. Watch tv, play computer games and whatnot.
