Why is council tax spread over 10 months instead of 12?

Seems to me like a good idea to spread it over the whole year to reduce everyone's monthly bill a bit.

Discuss.

We can change it to 12 by writing to our council, can also pay weekly if desired.

I like the psychological break across Feb/March post xmas where it feels as though you've got some extra cash across those months.

Most energy companies bill a fixed amount per month.

Lot easier to budget when monthly costs are consistent. I changed mine to 12 months.

We can choose from:
-Full year payment
-Weekly
-Fortnightly
-10 months with options for payment breaks in Feb+Mar, July+Aug or Dec+Jan
-monthly
-quarterly

I chose to pay equal monthly payments as I find it easier for budgeting.

Agree, same way I look at it (the 2 month break).

I've only ever known it to be over 10 months, with tax breaks in Feb/Mar. My Prime sub renews every Feb and Disney+ sub renews in Mar, so this balances out. I wouldn't change it.

For everyone who likes paying it in 10 months because of the "extra" money in the other 2 months - have you considered paying it in a single lump sum? Surely getting an "extra" £1k+ for 11 months of the year is better than £100 or so for only 2? Sounds like you're missing a trick there!
