For me 1.6, brillaint gameplay, maps, the way cs is meant to be played, source is way to easy in my opinion.

uh oh

Edit: on reflection it might be a genuine question so...

1.6 benefits:
gameplay (feel of the game, the way it plays out, personal opinion)
user maps (some of which still aren't matched in source really imo),
community (back then, nothing to do with the game)

bad things:
bugs and exploits,
balance, AWP was silly as was the desert eagle. Some of the maps were pretty poorly designed
skins and sounds have aged badly

Source good bits:
source graphics
modding capabilities (in our last lan i made skins of some of the players was a piece of cake to make very good ones with the tools provided by valve)
more options in server configs and great new features like the HTTP download (now with gzip capability)
half life tv, record videos with little to no hit in performance then playback and record using your favourite program afterwards.
Some great user made mods, e.g. zombie source, hidden

some bad bits:
worse gameplay (personal preference)
maps made unecessarily complex (extra pointless items in the world just creating clutter)

I am going to say Source. (Inb4 haters) It is the first one I played so I love it. I still play 1.6 but I just prefer source.

i agree with you on the most part, i wish they made the new CS:GO 1.6 gameplay + source graphics(but better obviously)

ive played source a lot and ive played cs 1.6 a lot and imo 1.6 is the much better game.

cant believe how active CS 1.6 still is, more people play it than CS Source to this day.....the competative side of it is still as active as ever

Euro scene yeah, UK scene isn't what it once was :(

1.5 for me.
I could never get on with Source, all the bang-on hit boxes from the older CS were replaced with lottery-style ones.

Havent played Source for years now so i cant comment on the state of that one major issue. But it was a game breaker for me.
And for most older CS players (from what i have read) it still is.

ye the cs source hitboxes are still completely random..........you might find it consistant, for all of 5 minutes.......its a good game but not a patch on the original CS 1.6 or previous versions

Source was pathetic on release from what I remember of it (dynamic gun pricing - who remembers that P.O.S. HAHAHAHHA). Then once it was patched, and things settled down for a while, it was a pretty good game to be honest. I often swapped between playing source and 1.6, doing leagues in both etc, really enjoyable.

Unfortunately Valve done the silly thing in my opinion and passed development on to Hidden Path who had the amazing idea of porting it over to the "Orange Box". That right there killed the game for me, and so many thousands of others. A lot of people have adjusted to it now, but it's just not what I remember it to be, for lack of a better word, it's appalling.

I played source the most, but it's gone way downhill. I've gone from playing nearly every night to not playing for months now.
