Counter strike source = impossible to get back into?

Agree whole heartedly with the comments in this thread, in particular with reference to the respawning - which jogged my memory. I think the only fps online game 'with' respawning in that I actually liked was my first (which maybe is why I didn't mind then, since I had nothing to compare it with), and that was SOF2.
 
CSS requires beer and/or snacks. Thats the main benefit to playing I think, deathmatch is irritating and leaves no time for the essentials
If you die in the first rush that means go make a sandwich
 
I came quite late to the party with CSS and only purchased it probably in the last few months, I also got COD MW2 not so long ago too, I think both games are great however I hardly play MW2 and perfer to play CSS I just find it more skillful and fun :)
 
I prefer it, as it makes you play differently if you have to wait a while to respawn in the next round. Gives me time to put the kettle on aswell :p
 
One of my favourite things about CS has always been the one life setup. With tdm games its just spawn die, spawn die etc but the consequences of having only one life makes for much more tense games. Plus in games that go with the nonstop spawn/die cycle there isnt the time to chat and have fun between lives.
 
Play deathmatch if the spawns **** you off. Its just like search + destroy on cod, not to some peoples taste but others love sitting for 5 mins watching noobs run around.
I love going on css every now and then and a mix of bomb rounds + dm is awesome.
 
Can't comment on COD as I haven't played it but have watched others play it. It seemed a bit generic and I can't really see the appeal but I guess its 'new' to the eyes on people who've never played anything like it before.

I use to play CSS quite a lot but haven't for a long while now. It was always fun and I loved it when you were the last survivor on your team playing hide an seek with the other team. Always made my heart beat like mad. I might play it again some time in the future but TF2 is keeping me occupied for now.

It also amazes me how the two Counter-Strike games are almost always at the top of the Steam stats with 70,000+ players daily. The CoD games are at around 50,000 but CS is over 10 years old and CSS is 6 years old. I guess console figures will be like 6-8 times that amount. I wonder how many people will be playing CoD:BO in 6 years time?
 
CS will always have a longer lasting appeal. More skill is involved and working your way up the learning curve will continue to be rewarding long after you've unlcoked all the perks and weapons in CoD. How many people found they lost interest in CoD and BC2 once everything had been unlocked?
 
I can't stand the Arcade feel of modern shooters. CS:S is still the pinacle of the genre for me.

I've played CS and CS:S since the beta way back in like 99. However, mainly due to a lack of time now and moving out of a house where me and my housemates played it constantly, I haven't touched it in the last year. I've bought games like COD and BC2 to play but they just didn't seem to grab me and last week I reinstalled CSS! Took a few games to get back into it but now I'm loving it again.. It might not have the fancy graphics but to me it just seems a lot more skillful than the others.
 
Anyone else find this? Used to play lots of it back in the day, but after shooters like cod, tf2 and bc2 are around it just feels like so much more of a chore to play. Waiting for a whole round to respawn, lots of recoil and the massive focus on headshots all seem a bit old hat now.

Public games of CS have always been rubbish - It is not how the game is meant to be played. Nothing new here.
 
CS was way superior pre-source.

Played a few CSS pubs the other day and must say the overall skill level is much lower than it used to be.
 
lol, I used to be pro at cs:s, cs, dod and dod:s. Now I suck lol, my reactions are completely slugged out. I remember with the K98 (bolt action rifle) i used to dominate the match with that, 40 kills to 10 deaths a round lol. Same thing with counter-strike source really.

TF2 I totally lost the gist of it completely, since they decided to flood so many updates to the public it just got confusing wtf to unlock. Gets srsly uneven at times.
 
Used to (and still do to some extent) love the idea of CSS, but after years of the game not working as it should (do not read this as "how I want it to work", read it as "work properly"), not getting fixed and THEN having the Beta released which ****ed it even more, I had to call it a day.
Have been clean now for 6months, miss the mixing (our clan died post-Beta) but don't miss the game.

Now I will go and hide from the "oh you silly noob the Beta didn't change a damn thing" brigade.
