I currently have a player on my server who appears to have a constant 5ms ping.. The player in question rates are fine so I'm kinda guessing it must be something to do with the fact he is running on Linux.

This was checked using ma_rates and zb_netinfo.

Does anyone have any experience with this.. or should I just ban the player from my server??

Pings of 5 are easy to get at some times. I used to get between 2-5ms on CS and BF, then again running on data centre level fibre does come at a plus :D

you can use what is called a ping mask by typing cl_cmdrate +100 and it takes your ping down to 5, but your rates are the same and shouldnt make the player any more laggy or difficult to hit.. etc

I haven't played CSS in awhile but when I was living in London I'd often have 4-5ms ping times off my ADSL connection to hosts like multiplayer. Tho it was never 5ms constantly it would fluctuate 4-6ms or so with proper rates, etc.
