Counterstrike LAN woes

I have recently installed halflife on a second computer I have, so I now have it on both my main and second computers. (I have two copies of Halflife and have set up two steam accounts. so it's all above board).

I have played halflife death match using the 2 computers and all is fine.

I wanted to play counterstrike on my lan, so have downloaded it through steam on both computers.

On my main computer I have set up metamod and realbot so I can add bots to the game.

I can create a server without any problems.

However, when I try to connect using the second computer I just get a message saying the version of the map differs from the server.

How can this be when they are both up to date versions of counterstrike which have been down loaded about 3 days apart???

I hoped I might be able to copy the map from the server comp to the second comp but I can't find the map, presumably because it's in the game cahce files in steam.

I am stumped as to what to do.

Anyone got any idea how i can get this working???

Would it be because I'm using meta mod on the server comp???

Any help much appreciated.

I've had this problem with de_contra before, easiest way to fix it probably is just to delete the map from both computers and go download the map from somewhere and place it on both. Fixed :)

The problem is i can't find the map on my main computer, I assume it's in the game cahce that steam uses.

I was trying to play CS_Militia. I don't understand how it can be a different version when they were both downloaded from steam within a few days of each other.

The map should be in a folder such as this:

Program Files\Steam\steamapps\user\counter-strike source\cstrike\maps

Unless the server has it's own folder for maps, though I don't see why it would.

That's where I looked and there's only two maps in there, the names of which escape me.

I had a look on the steam website and it mentioned that if you can't find files for steam games they are probably in the gmaes cache that steam makes. I assume that is where cs_miltia must be.

I did wonder if I might be able to copy the games cache from my steam account on the main computer, which I am settin up the listen server on, to the one on the second computer. But I don't know if the cache files will be linked tot he steam account or not???

Have you tried doing a steam verification of the files?

Could it be the mod that you've setup on the server PC? Might be worth installing the exact same mods on both computers.

Yep, I've validated both lots of files and both seem fine.

I've been wondering about the metamod this morning, will install it on the second comp the same as I have on the first.

I will then cross my fingers and hope.

If that doesn't work, I might try deleting the local files on both comps and redownloading the whole lot again, at the same time on each comp.

I assume you're saying no to the idea that different content delivery server would cause the problem.

I figured it probably wouldn't have anything to do with it but the thought pooped into my head so I posted it.

You could always re-install cs on the second comp...Doesent take very long in all fairness.

Hve you tried joining that map on an internet game? See if it comes up with the same issue.

download the map from here

http://files.filefront.com/cs+militiarar/;5022625;/fileinfo.html

and put it on both comps.

i assume we are talking CS1.6 here not source?! if we are.. then your maps will be in this folder

C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\youremail@address\half-life\counter-strike\maps
and here
C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\youremail@address\half-life\cstrike\maps

Thanks guys. I didn't have a chance to try anything last night as for som reason the second computer died on me.... and I think it may need a reinstall... hoorah...

If I can breath life into it this evening, I'll give both of those suggestions a try.

With my luck with computers, it's probably completely dead...
