Counting Crows: New Amsterdam

Got this today

If you are a fan or even new to the Crows, its worth picking up. Having seen them live it captures the spirit of their shows, a great reproduction with some nice new twists on well known tracks. Although Across a Wire is probably a better starter album for the older tracks.

These guys hold a particular place in my heart although for some people they will be a little MOR rock they are certainly great musicians and Adam is a great lyricist.

Similar artists are probably Train, Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox 20

A quick google and it turns out they sing one of my favorite songs "Mr Jones" so I might have to take a nosey at their albums.

Hmm I like Train as well so I might check out the other two you mention.

didnt get round to seeing them on their last tour...might have to organise a copy of this; what with it being my birthday soon and all...

Might well pick this up, been listening to their older stuff after hearing colorblind on the cruel intentions soundtrack :eek:

If I was really honest I would suggest you get as your first one of the two below, not because New Amsterdam isn't good, it is, but these are better.

^This album is stunning especially if you can get the two disc version, there are some really haunting versions of the studio tracks and I think Adam is at his finest here.

MB, i honestly can't believe you've not mentioned Hard Candy - that's my favourite counting crows album

obviously you wouldn't mention it because it's my favourite, but you get the idea.

Wow I'm amazed, Hard Candy is good, the Crows are nothing if not consistant but I felt Hard Candy was a little disjointed.

For me it has to be August and Everything After which includes the classic Mr Jones, Perfect Blue Buildings, Rain King in fact every track is great or Across a Wire just because of the first three songs on the first disc; Round Here, Have You Seen Me Lately? and Angels Of The Silences which Adam sings so beautifully live.

I have his recipie for Dr Pepper Chicken somewhere that he gave out at the Brixton gig a couple of years ago. I really hope they come to the UK this time I'd love to see them again, last time they had Kelly Jones (Stereophonic) as a support act and brough him on to jam at the end. The put on a great show and have a brilliant raport with the audience well wort catching if you can.

I'm also hoping train will get their arses over here at some point.

i've heard a lot of people say that...but for me, it runs like a story - maybe why it seems disjointed. it's one of my favourite start-to-finish albums. although, i don't really see the need for the Big Yellow Taxi cover at the end. not a strong studio cover.

i'd love it if they toured here with Vanessa Carlton, though.

They had it on the music at work for about 6 weeks recently and I loved the song but didn't know who sang it. I recognised the lyrics when I had a look to see what they had sung.

I end up buying quite a few cd's I wouldn't otherwise have that way when I find out who sings them.
