Do countries get to choose what their name will be in international competition?
It's something I've wondered a lot, but the Olympics have reminded me. Some countries appear to use their native language name, like Spain and Lithuania, while others seem to use an English version of their name, like Germany.
Some even seem to combine them, like Hungary who have HUN as their abbreviation and Hungary as their full name, yet all their clothing shows the native spelling (I'm not even going to attempt it, but it begins with an M).
