Building my comp for first time, I've ran into a couple more things im not too sure about.

First, my dvd drive, should I have an audio out cable connected or just the IDE and power?

Second, I've got a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 320GB 6V320F0 SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD-113-MD) hard drive, should the only cable going to it be one of the thinish yellow cables supplied with board?

and if so in the manual theres a couple of places to plug it into the motherboard, depending on if its controlled by ICH8R or by Gigabyte sata2, but im not sure which im supposed to go for?

ive got the DS4 board.

Any help appreciated

The audio out cable should go to your soundcard or if you are using onboard sound there should be somewhere to plug it in. It should be called cd in or something.
You'll need this to hear music from a cd.

Not 100% sure on the drive you're using but i would have thought the sata 2 socket would be the one to go for.

If it doesn't pick it up in the bios splash screen then just swap it to the other.

Hope this helps and happy building.

1st: just the pata and molex cables, sound cables are not needed anymore since windows xp, u can still hear sound from music cd's without the cable.
about the sata: i dont think it matters, try to find one saying sata_1 and plug it in there...
That shuuld be controlled by the ich8r wich is usually faster cos its integrated into the sb chip...

yes that should be ok, you can change later anyhow w/o any probs if u want to plug it into a different sata(II) port
