Hi all,

As title reads, got a couple of newbie questions and looking for advice

Starting a new job tomorrow which on occasion will allow me to commute by cycling, 4.5 miles each way.

Since I'll likely be using my bike more and more, looking for a couple of things:-
- Phone mount for handlebars (iPhone 12)
- Bike rack for car, ideally a rear towbar mounted one, not overly fussed on getting roof bars for this car, would rather something that fits onto the tow ball

Cheers

I tried my old mobile on my turbo trainer mobile mount recently for a short ride outside and while nothing happened to it, I was really nervous about something happening as I rode over bumpy gaps in "sleeping policeman."

Keep your mobile in a secure pocket like a dedicated cycling jersey/jacket to record your rides or simply get a dedicated GPS computer, like a ~£40 Coospo or iGPSport model from Amazon, which will be more robust and have a battery that doesn't drain so quickly.

Have a look on Roofbox - they have a wide rage of carriers depending on your budget, number of bikes etc. Check their Offers section for returns as they can be cheap if you don't mind a scuff or something. Once you know what model(s) you are interested in, also have a look on places like Facebook market place. My B-i-L picked up a Thule towbar carrier which was pretty much brand new for a good price.

I used to run a quadlock on my motorbike. Absolutely solid but I didn’t like the case. Only used it occasionally for navigation anyway and felt it wasn't worth it so got rid. Its so much easier to pull over on a bike to check your phone than in a car. Other than that I can't see why you would need one on pushbike.

Tow hitch mounted carriers are so much less hassle than roof mounted especially at you don't have roof bars. Get a Thule one, will be loads on Facebook marketplace.
