Hola, I have been sucked in by the price drop.

I have a Dell monitor that I use for 360 gaming that I'd like to use for PS3 too, what do I need to connect a PS3 to DVI? Is it as simple as a HDMI > DVI adaptor then use my Z5500's for sound through Optical?

There may be more questions but that's the most pressing one :)

Edit: Oh man wrong forum, noob error :o

iirc the monitor has to support HDCP for a HDMI>DVI adaptor to work. Maybe post your monitor model and someone might have one and can verify whether it works with your model. I am assuming it doesn't have HDMI (simplest method to connect).

Out of interest how much is it with the price drop?

hsmi to dvi cable works perfect on my hanns-g hh251 screen, i just use my chair or turtle beach headset for sound (yes my chair has speakers in it :D)

It's about £170 for the 160Gb for me (that includes a mate's discount though)

The monitor is the Dell U2311H which I think does support HDCP.

Google shows that monitor supports HDCP over DVI (Dell forum and Dell spec page) so you should be fine.

Can you say how much the PS3 is without the discount? A friend is after one and the cheapest I can see in stock is £192 @ Amazon. As I have not been keeping an eye on prices it is hard for me to tell which retailers are showing pre or post price drop prices (if you see what I mean?). Play.com have 2 160GBs showing, one for 200 and the other 190. The cheaper one has a release date of Friday (implying the price drop is on that date?).

Shop.to is very slightly cheaper than that, it's the cheapest I've seen. Price drop is immediate from Sony but some retailers may be waiting until Friday.

I bought a new 320gb PS3 for £215 from Tesco, as they are running 20% off all consoles atm.

There is also a £10 off £75 + over voucher on Hot Uk Deals website to reduce that further. You can also click and collect.

If the monitor supports hdmi see if it can take a Dell sound bar. I have a 24" Dell monitor and can play and plug headsphones in while G/F watches soaps on telly, everybodies happy!

Before I got my 37" Lg I was using my 360 and Ps3 on my old phillips 20" via component to dvi (the only hd connector on the tv was dvi oddly). I bought a component to dvi convertor plug from fleabay from the Usa for a few quid and it worked great. If hdmi to dvi dosnt work that way you could always grab a component lead and try that as I think its got a better chance of being compatible unless I'm mistaken.

Bought an HDMI to DVI lead and an optical cable :)

Worst comes to worse I can always play it through HDMI on the tv downstairs, just prefer this way as I'm not limited by other people wanting the TV!
