Ive got an 80gb hd in my macbook that I would like to backup using timemachine or some other software. Can I partition an external 250gb to have an 80gb timemachine partition and the rest as a normal data partition. Secondly, I have installed vista via bootcamp but would like the computer to automatically boot to the screen that gives me the OS selection rather than having to hold down the option key. Is this possible.

Any help on these two issues would be great.

If your internal HD is only 80gb then it might be worth using superduper or carbon copy cloner to image the hard drive instead. Much quicker to restore from in the event of failure.

in Startup disk on the OSX side you can select the default start up partition. Should boot by default to bootcamp partition.

Cheers, Its not got the bootcamp partition in there, Just the vista and os x. Ive set os x as the default and can just hold option whenever i need to get into vista for visual studios. Was just annoying when the default was vista.

Misread what you put, Startup disk just lets you set the default boot partition. Either OSX or just bootcamp (your Vista installation).
No real way of getting it to boot to the menu select option, it's either one or the other with option if you need to switch to the other.

Ok cool, its all good man. Enjoying os x for general use and then vista for visual studios. Just need to get a mini-dvi to dvi for hooking it up to the 226bw for a bit of illustrator.
