Hi all,

Just ordered the new Mac Book Pro, looking forward to getting it

I'm quite new to macs, been using Windows 8/8.1 for a bit

a few questions please.......depending on the answers, I may be able to sell my PC

1. Can I save my work to an online solution (iCloud) - like I do now with Skydrive from the Save As menu option. Don't really want to download third party apps. Would prefer something integrated with the OS.

2. Can I run apps from the Apple store. I love stuff like Netflix, and the app is so much better than going via the browser. This is also useful for my kids school apps.

3. Does it have a basic image editor like MS Paint. You may laugh, but I find it really useful to be able to knock up a quick graphic, or quickly change an existing one

4. I have a lot of MKV video files which are created from BD50 blurays. They are around 35GB, and contain DTS/MA / TrueHD audio tracks. What's the best software for viewing these, and also streaming via DLNA to my TV. Whatever software I use needs to support adaptive bitrate technology as I have family members viewing media from the internet. My initial thought was Plex, but don't know how good it is for playback.

5. Although I will be using MS Office and the latest RDP v8 released last week from Microsoft, is there something like HyperV. Obviously im not expecting this as part of the OS, but think something like VMware would do. Need to create my own Network with Virtual switches and servers

6. VPN software to connect into work? Sonicwall appliance

Thanks very much

1. With the iWork apps you certainly can, it's actually the default option unless you change it.

2. Not quite sure what you mean, there isn't a native Netflix app.

3. Not by default, but plenty of free/Cheap alternatives - Skitch, Sketchbook Express, Pixelmator, Paint Brush... all available on the App Store.

4. Not quite sure, but if they won't play in iTunes, something like VLC will do the job no problem (also free).

Not sure on Q 5 and 6 :)

Natively Pages will save in the .pages format, which Word won't be able to read. You can export from Pages in a variety of formats (including .doc), so you will be able to use documents on both devices.

However, if you do want to use Pages seamlessly with a works PC, it might be better to try using Pages in the browser via iCloud.com (think google docs) when at work. Although still in 'Beta', it seems to be quite solid from what I've experienced. You can even collaborate on documents between multiple users also.

The other option of course would be to install Office for Mac, and just work with MS format files, regardless of the device you're on.
