Couple of quick memory queries?

Hi there,

I'm in the process of upgrading the kids PCs and moving some of my old kit down to them. I'd really appreciate a couple of pointers on two memory queries. My son's PC is now...

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rev 3.3 Mobo
2 x 1Gb DDRII 800Mhz PC2-6400 sticks of RAM
ATI Radeon X1950 512Mb Graphics card
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit

He mainly uses it for gaming and homework (in that order heh!). I'm thinking he could use some more RAM and being 64bit he could take advantage of 4Gb, I was wondering whether to get him...

a) An additional 2 x 1Gb sticks of DDRII 800 ram, i.e more of the same speed as he has already (for about £40)
b) An additional 2 x 1Gb sticks of DDRII 1066 ram, faster than he has currently but presumably it would just run to the speed of the slowest ram (the 800Mhz thats already in there) so would this be pointless? (for about £60)
c) Or getting him 2 x 2Gb sticks of DDRII 1066 ram (for about £90) and removing the 800Mhz sticks?

What do you guys reckon would be the best improvement for that PC for the money? Would going to 1066 Mhz RAM be worth more than double the cost of just sticking with 800Mhz?

Also, my daughter's PC will (when I've moved stuff about) be...

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.00 Ghz (not sure of the mobo)
2 x 512Mb DDR 3200 400Mhz RAM

She only really uses it for iTunes and browsing.

I want to take it to Windows 7, would it be worth me spending £50-£60 taking the RAM to 2Gb (still 400Mhz obviously)? I know Windows 7 likes a lot of RAM.

And would you guys bother with 64bit Windows 7 on that hardware or just stick with 32bit?

Any pointers would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Tem
