I'm just about to purchase a shiny new Wii console but just wondered about a few things.....

1) How does it connect to the TV? (normal CRT TV at the moment)
2) Does the standard pack include any sort of memory card?
3) If no memory card, will it accept just a regular SD card or does it need a specific Wii one?
4) What is the SD card actually used for?
5) Does the Wii Play game/controller pack include the nunchuck part of the controller?
6) is there any on-line capabilities with the Wii??

Thanks in advance guys....

1) it comes with the standard 3 colour composite but worth getting the scart cable seperately
2) inbuilt hdd ;) - although there are GC memory slots for backward compatibility
3) any SD card is fine
4) backing up save games / storing downloaded classic games / some other useless stuff
5) nope
6) yeah, you can play people online, browse the tinternet, download classic games etc...

get one, they're certainly fun, but i wouldn't own one over a ps3 or xbox 360 only as well as... very very different console ;)

btw, get zelda ;)

Thanks for the quick reply! :D

So is the SD card slot only necessary to back up saved game files etc - I'll be able to store most stuff on the 512 built in flash memory?

Thanks again.....

SteveP

1) How does it connect to the TV? (normal CRT TV at the moment) Via Composite (Red, White & Yellow) + SCART adapter if necessary. Worth looking at the Official RGB SCART Cable for best picture on an SDTV.

2) Does the standard pack include any sort of memory card? Not needed for Wii games. It has 512MB internal storage. You'll need a Gamecube pad/memory card to play GC games.

3) If no memory card, will it accept just a regular SD card or does it need a specific Wii one? Regular SD is fine. Not sure on capacity limits. You probably won't need one...

4) What is the SD card actually used for? ... unless you buy a lot of VC games and run out of internal storage. Or you like to show off photos on the Wii. Or you want to back up save games. Or you want to listen to MP3s in supported games (Excite Truck is about the only one I can think of...)

5) Does the Wii Play game/controller pack include the nunchuck part of the controller? No.

6) is there any on-line capabilities with the Wii?? Yes. Check games for Wifi compatibility - some are mulitplayer, others just score tables etc. Can also browse the internet with the browser, download virtual console titles, check news/weather via dedicated channels and take part in other Nintendo channel related stuff. It updates via the internet.

I've not ran out of space yet internally on the built in memory - I've got about 10 virtual console games and loads of Wii games. So don't worry.

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

One last quick question (albeit a bit late as I've ordered one already! :D) Do the controllers just use normal AA batteries (x2?) - I've already got 4 rechargable batteries that I used to use in an old digital camera - will these do or do I need to be looking at some 3rd party charging stand/station??

StevieP

Ordinary rechargeable batteries will be fine, however, I cannot recommend the 4gamers charging stand enough. It's just so much easier dropping the remotes straight next to the Wii after use, instead of fussing around with batteries and the charger packs.

Also, about the SD card, I think any current capacity is accepted. I have a 2 gig card anyway, and it takes that fine. However, I've got a full page (12) of VC games (including three N64 titles), a load of save games, and all the free browser/voting type channels, and I've yet to use up the internal storage. I'm coming close mind, but there's still space.

The Wii does not support Hight Capacity SD cards so the limit is 4GB. 2GB is more than enough for what you will use it for thought tbh.

yeah ignore my post i was talking crap, go with what Syph said ;) :D

:p

I started mine before you posted, but I'm slow :D

Weebull's suggestion RE: rechargables is a good one. I use 2500mAh rechargables in mine, which last a good while and work well. But I imagine it's easier to dock the remotes than take batteries out. See how you get on with your existing batteries.

Thanks again guys, although I think I'll stick with my existing batteries for now (I'm assuming each remote takes 2 x AA batteries?) coz I think I might have spent enough today already!! ;)
£180 for the console, £35 for Wii Play, £15 for an extra Nunchuk and £38 for Mario and Sonic go to the Olympics!!!! :D

Any other recommendations??

StevieP

Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3 are my top 2. Zelda I'm sure can be picked up cheap (and would be my Top 3). Look at Resident Evil 4 if you've never played it before as it can be had for ~£20 if you look around (I'm sure someone will say less). Other games you might enjoy:

Super Paper Mario
Mario Strikers Charged Football
Medal of Honor Heroes 2
Zack & Wiki
Rayman Raving Rabbids 1/2

Might be worth picking up a Classic Controller (£14) and some Virtual Console titles (Street Fighter II, Zelda [SNES], Mario Bros 3 etc).

Cheers, I'll have a look at those once my bank balance has recovered a little!

Cant wait for Mario Kart and Pro Evolution Soccer though!! :D

big brain academy is the cheapest game around i think, played it over xmas at gfs with her and it was pretty damn fun, better than wii play tbh.

They need to make the cow racing and tank games off wii play into proper games tbh tho :D
