Hi,

I had a fantastic day out with this beauty yesterday...

Just check out those headlights. I love how they've split it between the daytime driving lights which are shaped in an L fashion much like the rest of the styling cues of the car. The main headlight itself is similar to the DC5. When I first saw pics of the car I thought the front grill was ugly but with a reg plate dividing it into two it looks good as do the fog lights in those "air vents". Just check out that stance!

Ohmygerd that rear. Love how the tail lights swoop deep into the rear quarters and lead your eye into the side skirts and again the double L shape within the tail lights. Nice subtle boot spoiler too and I think the exhausts pipes work and that to integrate them like in the GS model wouldn't look as aesthetically pleasing.

Love the alloys though the side profile isn't as dramatic as the previous 2 views.

To be honest I prefer the interior of the 2nd generation IS as it's less busy but that digital tacho/speedometer is cool and it moves to the right to reveal further information if you press the button on the right of the steering wheel.

Same engine as 2nd gen so I suspect the same auto too. Didn't bother use the paddle shift as it's a gimmick being a top gear limiter essentially with slow latency. Visibility is worse out the rear window. The colour here definitely improves the look of the car and I certainly got a lot of looks from pedestrians :D Handling and performance felt the same as 2nd gen. Bit laid back as it's keen to shift up...5th gear at 30 and 6th in 40? F Sport seats were a bit tight round my upper back but otherwise supportive and comfortable elsewhere.

Definitely the best looking compact exec in my opinion. Heart broken still since handing it back yesterday afternoon. :(

My goodness, what a mess! That side profile looks awful with the random sloping up towards the back, and the way the curves / swage line of the bumper and lights are done it looks like the rear ride height are much higher.

The front end looks like the sort of graphical corruption you'd see in a computer game when the graphics card overheats.

I really don't like the look of that at all, it's all design for design's sake.

I like the interior though.

Agreed it looks really uncomfortable in it's own skin.

It reminds me of the fat ginger guy you see in every pub in the country who's shirt is two sizes too small and you can see the buttons straining to keep it round his teets.

To each his own I guess :D

I think the styling is fresh and exciting. I guess it's partly due to the fact that out on the road 3 series, C class, A4 etc are much more common and so if it ain't an aggressively styled model that is the M3, AMG or RS4 then it's not much of a head turner. Styling wise they have improved over the generations but in my opinion they're for want of a better description...safe/plain? Don't get me wrong I'm sure said cars are in many ways better than the IS250 for example it seems the 3 series can't be beaten in terms of driving satisfaction/feedback/involvement etc etc. But again the IS just stands out and not in a messy way imo. :p

Don't like the front at all, and the interior is still horribly plasticky looking.

Like the side profile and the back though.

I've seen a couple of these on the road and they actually look a lot better than in these pics where its just.....busy.

Quite like the interior though.

The best recent, "modern" design is the Mazda 6 imo. Don't think it'll age too quickly either

I like it, but then I've always like Lexus. It will be rare on the road too.
I'd rather have one of these in hybrid form than a 320d.

Looks a bit like the Nissan Z with every design aspect taken to 11, not my tastes but definitely not a boring car.

I had high hopes for this in the early days but its just too fussy for me.

However it might be ahead of its time in the same way I find some BMW's dont work today but age well.
