Those of you who follow the 'pro' gaming scene may be interested to see that the Cyberathelete Professional League has decided to use Quake3 for it's duel tournaments and Counterstrike for it's team events: http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1144318

I must admit I am somewhat suprised, as I always felt that due to sponsorship commitments, demanding games would tend to be chosen for such things. I mean lets be honest, Nvidia aren't going to sell many Geforce9-Ultra-Deluxe-GTX-XPs to players of games with engines released in the last millenium, are they? Sure, you've got your fatal1ty branded stuff, and I/O devices like mouse, keyboard, headphones, monitor etc, but I can't see the likes of Intel/AMD/ATI/Nvidia getting too exciting about this.

I guess part of this comes down to the fact that some of the older games simply have a better infrastructure for the 'pro' scene; all the way from the tournament mods used, right down to the demo/GTV spectator experience. Personally I don't think Q3/CS can match Quakeworld in terms of the skill requirement/gameplay experience, but it's a step in the right direction.

That's really what the pro gaming scene is like, CS1.6 is still the most popular game, and a lot of the 1.6 pros have not gone over to CS:S as to them, it's stepping down in terms of gameplay etc.

It's good to see CPL not giving in to those that want CS:S being the big thing, but that's my personal opinion.

Im glad they are sticking with CS1.6 it really does require the most skill and good reactions out of all the games. Its simple but really addictive.

Bloody whinging 1.6 n00bs. I played sisne like 1.3 and I prefer CS:S. Ok so maybe there is a bit of unusualness when someone dies and you can tell you didn't hit them but overall the fact that the graphics don't want me make to pull my eyes out makes CS:S the winner.

They cannot play CS:S forever. The problems with S are not as bad as they make out, I feel some people like to make themseleves sound l33t by saying it isn't as good, just because this is what happens with EVERY sequel to a popular Game/Move/Album etc etc.

Valve arn't going to change anything, so why not move now.

And the fact that my PC rocks and it makes me so happy everyime I play it helps. :D

Anyway I must go and play on an aim map so I can kick all ** asses.

The thing is, why should people feel compelled to "move now"? Since CS1.6 has a larger player base than CS:S, surely it should be the CS:S players moving to CS1.6?

While I agree with you about some people wanting to sound 'l33t' by shunning modern things in favour of old, that's not the only reason people play older games or like older movies. Sometimes they are just better or more enjoyable to the individual, it's as simple as that.

Oh, and why can't they play CS1.6 (I'm assuming you made a typo) forever*. There's still people playing much older games than that :)

*forever as in, until there are technical limitations preventing them from doing so.
