I'd rather try and fail than not try as I'm sure most people would.
Plus the family will at least know that all was done that could have been at that time.

Of course, if the figure is 1% then one life has been saved.
 
The actual reality of watching someone suffer a cardiac arrest is terrible especially when you know the survival rate. Unfortunately the patient has pretty much died therefore any help given is better than nothing.

Videos like this are ideal as it at least gives some idea of what to do.
 
A member of my community first responder team was involved in a successful resuscitation late last year where a defib (aed) and CPR were used.

Its surprising how many aed's are around, particularly in shopping centres, sports centres, train stations etc.
