I'm using an AMD Athlon 300+ skt 754 64bit CPU at 2.4GHz, 1.25GB RAM and a GeForce 6200 128MB graphics card.

When I run videos (or try to) my CPU maxes out to 100% and the videos won't run, MediaPlayer, JetAudio and all other players just say 'connecting'. The task manager says that it's not the video player maxing out, and it normaly says it's explorer (sometimes it doesn't say anything is, even though it is maxing out).

I have re-installed windows (running Windows XP Home) twice now. Videos were working but I re-installed the PC for other reasons, then I started to get this video problem, so re-installed windows, and I am still getting it.

I've had someone tell me that he had this problem, and it was due to windows not loading the videos correctly into the RAM...and he fixed it by re-installing.

This is really trying my patience as I do video editing and need to be able to play videos.

If anybody has any idea as to what is wrong and how I can fix it (ideally without yet another re-install) that'd be great.

Cheers.

First of all make sure you have the latest chipset and graphics drivers.
Then do a full windows update and grab a load of missing updates.
Then look at what codecs are needed to play these videos, it may be that you don't have them installed. GSpot is a good utility to find this out.

Well because of the install I updated windows first, and got the latest drivers for graphics and chipset - the same as I had before I did the re-install.

As for codecs I installed the AC3 codec as sujested by someone elsewhere aswell as the ACE codec pack (50mb) which should supply the correct codecs. I thought it may have been WMP11, but after uninstalling that it still does it, it's really doing my head in as I have no clue what is causing it.

Unless MS managed to ship a dodgey codec pack with WMP11...I was hoping that it was just WMV files, but it's all video files.
If it were just WMV's then it's be that codec, but it isn't...it's really strange as I tryed running videos as soon as I had re-installed and it was doing this....athlough the second time I installed WMP11...

Maybe it is an issue with WMP11 and my pc as I know it is hard to completely remove MS products that are embedded in windows.
