cpu 105oc

high all, watching my cpu temp go up and down like a yoyo, at the moment using a program called real temp 3.40 to monitor cpu temp

cpu is intel i3 530 2.93, not been overclocked

system was built on sunday and this is its second run, standard fan aswell.

currentley at system idle 0 - 5% use the lowest temp recorded is 50oc

with the cpu on around 30% load it jump up to around 70oc

somewhere not sure what load but highest recorded was 105oc, ive used silver artic thermal paste and according to the website it does take a couple of startups and cool offs to make it set, but surley even with a stock fan temperatures shouldnt been running this high.

according to the bios the system temperature is 25oc any ideas ?

Are you sure the heatsink is securly mounted an making good contact.

However 103 degrees in unlikey as the thermal limit for these chips is 73 degress so it would have shut itself down long before then

The thermal specs often stated are tcase max, and these are not on-die temps, and are not the same as what is shown in programs that read the DTS such as realtemp etc.
Would keep it about 20C away from Tjmax to be safe. The only 73 i can find in relation to the 530 i3 is the TDP, which is nothing really to do with max temp in that sense.

I'm pretty certain you've mounted the heatsink badly, or it's come loose in transit.

thats exactly what happened, checked the fan and it had came loose, re fitted and its taken it down a dream.

thats that problem sorted.

Which is not the temperature reported by programs such as coretemp and Realtemp. Does anyone know the Tjunction max for the i3 cpus? Is it about 100C or something? i'm pretty sure it would'nt shut itself down at 73C as i've seen enough i series reach that on stock speed and coolers and still report good thermal status. My rule of thumb is to keep it about 25-30C away from the max tjunction and i've never had heat related issues.
