CPU @ 170C and shutting down...!

Indeed, replaced cooler and this seems to have fixed (think it must've been one of the pins on those awful intel stock coolers wasn't fixed in and it was not quite in contact or something...).

Either way, you know when you open the case, you might as well do some other tidying up, so I gave it a good clean out, then figured I might as well replace the motherboard, add a Ryzen 1700x and 32GB of ram .... You know... Just whilst tidying up and all that....

Runs much cooler now. All eight cores.... ;)
 
I approve or your irregular upgrading by virtue of moar cores.

I remember getting the Q6600 when dual core was hailed as the better gaming chip. It lasted ages unlike the dual core options.

Again with the (dirt cheap) FX8320 which was pretty slated, but worked out nicely over the years versus a bottom end non overclockable ivy i5.

Next up will be a Ryzen 8 core I think, but probably zen+.
