Hi there my computer is very old by today's standards, partially because im thinking of waiting till conroe, rather than getting an AM2 rig atm....anyway....i checked my CPU temp the other day and it was on 64C while idle (spec is in sig)!! I'm assuming this is very hot, even though its a Socket A xp 2200+....

I was having problems when the computer was automatically resetting due to it overheating, and taking off the side panel seems to have helped, though my mobo utility says the system temp is @ 44C (AAARGH) any tips on anything i could do to save this dinosaur computer ? I just need it to work stable without resetting!

Could be a build up of dust in the heatsink/fan, I think these chips run hot anyways, but surely not that hot.

Could try resetting the hsf, or apply new compund, thats my thoughts hope it helps in some way.

kool thanks, im sure it does need a good clean, so i will do it, just need to find some good stuff to clean off the silicon, and reseat the HSF, problem is i dont have any AS5, though i do have AS3....and how much should i really use.....?

i mean size wise....size of a pea? grain of rice? 5p piece?
