Hi,

As title really, currently running the following:

Abit NV8
A64 3400+ (s754, at 2.28)
1 Gig PC4000 (at 240)
X1800XT

Ive been toying for a while on 'upgrading' my CPU. The 3400+ i currently have is rubbish, it runs at stock flawlessly but i cant for the life of me OC it by any amount. Now i have a fairly OK PC bar the CPU and feel this may be the weeker link in my setup.

Ive had a quick scan around and i do realise the s754 was a 'stop gap' of sorts prior to the arrival of s939 but im fairly much stuck with it (s754) for the time being, however i can stretch to a new CPU.

What im after is any recomendations as to what CPU to get, im specifically after oc ability to try to help my X1800 out a little. So to that end, go for another A64 or maybe a Sempron?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Dave.

Athlon 64 3700+, fastest socket 754 CPU made.
That would be your best bet.

Or the Sempron 64 3400+ 2.0GHz (Socket 754), easier to find, get a good cooler & try to overclock it to the max.

I have a sempron(s754) in a second system and have an 50% overclock on it.

Running at 2.4ghz from its stock 1.6ghz (stock cooler) :D

its a great cpu for the money and 64 bit too.
