Hey guys, soon i'll be upgrading my pc and i'm pretty stuck on which CPU to get. The budget will be around £100-£130 but i'm willing to pay a little more if its worth my while. Could anyone recommend me the best bang for buck CPU going at the moment? It must be Intel, and id prefer a quad for games like GTA etc. Much appreciated, Thank you. :D

The q6700 is a really lovely chip, much better than the q8xxx series due to more cache and a higher multiplier - it should give you a nice performance boost too. They also clock reasonably well - aim for 3.5GHz.

That said, what is your motherboard? - some of the older s775 boards like the 650i don't play nice with quad cores.

Also - what cooler are you running? The quads are 95W TDP at stock compared to 65W of your e5200, so expect it to run a bit warmer.

Well, i'm building the rig at the minute so i haven't got all the parts. The motherboard is going to be the Asus P5Q Pro Intel P45 and the Cooler i'm getting is the Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler. Thanks for replying.

That motherboard would be perfect should you decide to go for a quad core.

As for the tuniq tower, if you haven't already bought it you may want to have a look at this, its 35p more expensive and one of the best air coolers about.
