My mobo has 8pin & 4pin cpu atx connections. I know using just the 8pin should be fine for most cpu's.

I'm using an i9 7980ex

knowing this cpu will be power hungry. Do I need to plug it to both the 8 & 4 pin cpu sockets to power it ?

I would be plugging them both in on such a power hungry platform. It may just be neccessary for overclocking but it's better to be safe than sorry.

I remember going with an AMD CPU which required the original 4pin ATX power, I totally forgot about it on the build and could not work out why my 2000+ AMD was running at 1600mhz insteqad of 2000mhz, turns out it as because I had not plugged the 4pin ATX in lol - how I did not fry the boars is a miracle :p
My advice, plug it in anyway, if it needs the extra power it's there and available!

Yup, got both atx connectors plugged in & running okay so far. Powered this new build up last night. I've noticed in device manager I seem to have an error in device manager "intel turbo boost max technology 3.0 driver"

messages says:
[This device cannot start. (Code 10)
{Operation Failed}
The requested operation was unsuccessful]

Not quite sure what that is all about. Attempted update but says driver up to date. Could this be a conflict of having other software installed like asus utility suite 3 maybe ?
Also trying to figure out how to get my asus monoblock light working. Have it connected to the rgb header pins. it's the only light I'm having issues with. Only once in my tinkering did I see it light up very very briefly but then went out.

I was going with a standard cpu block until someone recommended a monoblock. I must admit at the time I didn't even know monoblocks existed. It's been a while since I've entered the world of building.

Is it possible that a bios update could be bugged & is the reason why my monoblock does not light up like it is suppose to ? I've tried everything I can think of.

It is an issue but when cooling the vrm and the cpu under high loads mono block seems no way as effective. I don't think it's shifting the heat fast enough and vrm temp is effecting cpu.

For sure cpu 10+ c cooler in our testing with normal evo waterblock.
