on the "bay" there is a 4400 being sold.... they say its as new and is fully working but had bent pins when they got it... but they put them straight again...

this is surely not good ??

they say its fully tested and works fine still.... this must be a lie?

Nah. I bent a load of pins on my old Clawhammer, simply straightened them back out and it works fine.

***edit***

A mate of mine dropped his 754pin Sempron in the bottom of his case, and folded a couple of pins in half. I spent about half an hour getting them straight with a pair of tweezers and that worked.

I managed to bend a few pins on my old CPU, it stuck to the heatsink when I was taking it out... bent them back and it still all worked fine:)

One of my mates snapped a pin off on one of his CPUs, he stuck a part of a paper clip in the corresponding hole in the socket, dropped the CPU in and it worked perfect!

I dropped my CPU the other day when it was out of the case. As long as you get them straight again you'll be fine. Go to be gentle though, and do it in small stages.

Mine's still working fine.

I find that AC5 bends a lot of pins. Once its fully worked in getting it off is a mission without yanking the cpu out of the socket.

Just bend them back CAREFULLY and you should be fine.

i did it too, to a p4 2.8.. i used a magnifying glass and a small screwdriver to push them back into position and it worked.. i had to put the chip into the socket at an angle but here i am typing away on the same pc now :P

Done it a few times, had a 2.6ghz P4 and some of the pins broke off so I thought meh its only 1 pin and then.... I broke another 4 pins.

Patience is the key..... that cpu went straight to the rage bin

socket a cpus were the best, theri pins were thicker so could take more bending plus were better spread out, i find using a stanley knife blade works really well and a steady hand.

Fixed a row of bent pins on a s478 P4 before. I just used a small knife to line all the pins up again. Took a while and a steady hand and a bit of a squeeze back into its socket.

S775 really is a godsend, i think all CPU's should take heed and ditch the pins!!
