cpu bios detection question

I thought i had killed my cpu completely, it now appears just to be the memory controller at fault I'll ask on another thread
Now that I can run I found a bios that supports x6 for my mb on a biostar sme site - not on the main one, but having read the potential issues with 4+1 power and 6 cores I don't think I'll bother anyway.
