Guys, could really do with some advice.

I really don't want to go down the whole new upgrade root to a different chipset and CPU..

I have a 2500k @stock as my board doesn't allow overclocking.

I have just bought a HTC Vive and will be buying either a 1070 or 1080 at some point.

Is my only option with sticking with my 2500k with these cards, is to buy a better motherboard and overclock the CPU to about 4.6ghz? Or can my 2500k @stock handle it.

I will be wanting to use super sampling on my GC and not sure if that can cause more stress on my weak CPU? Or is it 100% GC stress only?

I have read lots on the net and it seems to have a mixture of information.

Dam 1155 used boards seem so expensive as they are end of line now, but I'm willing if needed.

Just don't want to put my build together then have to take it all apart again! As the CPU is struggling!

Honest advice please

Thanks so much

:)

Members market does tend to have to have the odd 1155 socket mobos about but they get snapped up quick and not as cheap as you would think for such a old mobo. It's just about the only tech that doesn't have the price deflate so rapidly.

With VR you will need a decent processor as it will be more cpu dependant due to the slightly high than normal FPS needed and essentially two screens being rendered for.

I think it'll depend entirely on your use case, are you just using the Vive for personal purposes to experience VR, or are you going to be developing with it?

Honestly I don't see that you're going to have that many problems with your current CPU, but really you're only going to really find that out when you begin to use it and see if it causes any problems. Overclock it a modest amount and start messing around with it, no point updating anything until you try it with your current setup as there may be no problems!

I certainly wouldn't upgrade the CPU without first trying it out to see if you need to do so. But then that could be me being miserly.. Personally i can't see there being a noticeable bottleneck, but maybe someone who already has a Vive would be a better consult!
