CPU Bottleneck?

How much of a bottleneck will an X2 4200+ cause when coupled with a GTX260?

I have a socket 939 4400+ and a 9600GT.

When I overclocked the 9600GT quite heavily, I achieved an improvement of 0.4 FPS (or near as damn it nothing) in the crysis benchmark and an 8% increase in 3D Mark 06 on the GPU score.

My CPU is definitely bottlenecking my card so I think it will definitely hold back a GTX 260.

Like siumatfung said, if you have it clocked to 3GHz it shouldn't be bottlenecking your system...

I used to run a 4200+ X2 clocked to 2.8GHz with my 8800GTX and I never had any issues, and I also had a 6000+ X2 with a GTX280 and I never noticed any bottlenecking...

The 4200+ should clock to around 2.8 to 3GHz without much trouble... or at least my old chip did..

Problem I have is heat with the stock heatsink, it hits about 55c in prime.

Sorry a 8800GTX is a bit wasted on a X2 4200+ let alone a GTX260.

You'd be better off looking at a GTS 250 £85.99

Unless you think you'll upgrade the cpu soon, before your replace this card.

There will be a huge bottleneck, even the AM2 X2s bottleneck cards like the 8800GTS/GTX. So I'd go with something a bit slower or you'll have rock bottom minimum framerates.
